Cortney Nelson

Principal

As Principal and Managing Partner of Chartwell Capital Partners, Cortney is responsible in overseeing acquisitions and capital allocations. He is also involved with other aspects of the Company’s business including strategic planning, marketing, and capital raising activities.

Cortney has sourced, negotiated, and structured real estate transactions for more than 15 years. His expertise has been developed in various capacities including the Special Situations Group atWells Fargo where he was responsible for maximizing value of $1.0+ billion of distressed real estate. 

Cortney also led a regional underwriting and deal origination teams where he was responsible for negotiating, structuring, and managing over $4 billion of transactions with many of the largest and most sophisticated real estate firms. He was also an active part of a team at Wells Fargo that acquired performing and non-performing loan portfolios from institutions including GE, ING, AngloIrish Bank among others.

In addition to Cortney's real estate experience, he has been a founding investor, board member, head of strategy, and general manager for Zyia Active (an athleisure apparel company) where he and the team have grown the company by over 300% over the past 4 years and been recognized by the Mountain West Capital Network as one of the fastest growing companies in Utah.

Cortney completed his bachelor’s degree from Brigham Young University in Finance with an emphasis on real estate. He resides in Heber City, Utah with his wife Laura and their four young children.
